Dining with diabetes
classes offered
Dining with Diabetes is a series of four weekly classes that aim to help individuals learn strategies to manage diabetes.
Classes include research-based education, cooking demonstrations and healthy recipe tasting, and will be conducted from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays July 16, July 23, July 30, and Aug. 6, at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex, 103 S. Bickett Boulevard, Louisburg. Cost is $15 to attend. Register online at https://go.ncsu.edu/dining2026.

Dinner theater to feature Mark Twain
An Evening with Mark Twain, a dinner theater experience, is planned for Saturday, July 25, by American Legion Post 52 in Franklinton with proceeds to go to support Legion programs that serve veterans, youth and the community.
Mark Twain will be performed by Don McNeil, an award-winning Twain performer who brings Twain to life with wit, wisdom and storytelling to help mark the nation's 250th anniversary.
The event will be at Carolina Manor House, 312 East Mason Street in Franklinton. Doors will open at 4 p.m.

LHS Class of '76 to reunite
The 1976 Class of Louisburg High School is planning its 50th reunion with the theme: "50 years of memories, friendship and legacy. Reconnect, reminisce and celebrate!" The reunion is slated for 5 to 10 p.m. July 11 at 210 Nash Street, Louisburg.

BBQ chicken and park fundraiser
The American Legion Post 52 at 40 American Legion Road in Franklinton will have their yearly BBQ Chicken and Pork Plate Fundraiser on Saturday, July 11 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. or until sold-out, eat in or take out.
Plates will include two Southern sides, bread, and a beverage, if eating in. Cost is $12/plate (cash or check). They also accept Visa and Mastercard with an additional 60 cents per plate convenience fee.
The Auxiliary Unit 52 will be selling desserts for $1 to $3 cash.

Summer activities at the library
Summer Reading at the Library continues! Come learn about animals with the Museum of Life & Science at Louisburg Library July 13, Franklinton Library July 15, Bunn Library July 16, and Youngsville Library July 21.
To celebrate America 250, library staff is creating a county cookbook. Adults can bring a recipe to contribute to Louisburg Library July 14, Franklinton Library July 16, Bunn Library July 28, and Youngsville Library July 30.

4-H Livestock fun show planned
Franklin County youth, age 5 -18 years old, are invited to participate in the county's 14th Annual "FUN" Livestock Show, Thursday, Aug. 20, at Wildwynn Stables in Youngsville. Area youth who love animals and would like to be judged exhibiting their animals are encouraged to participate, organizers said.
The animals will be judged by two expert livestock volunteers. Deadline for show registration is 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14. More information, registration forms and show rules and regulations can be accessed at franklin.ces.ncsu.edu/.

Farmers Market
open Fridays
The Franklin County Farmers Market in Shannon Village Shopping Center, Louisburg, is open Fridays 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Local watermelons, cantaloupe, vine-ripe tomatoes, squash, zucchini, onions, sweet corn, potatoes, snaps, local honey, pasture-raised beef, chicken, pork, eggs, plants, flowers, sourdough bread, fresh-baked cookies and one-of-a-kind crafts are usually available.

Food pantry
at Perry's School
Perry's School Alumni Association is hosting a Mobile Food Pantry on Tuesday, July 14, from 1 until 2:30 p.m. at Perry's School, 2226 Laurel Mill-Centerville Road in Centerville.
Advance Healthcare will be on site with their medical clinic bus and will be doing blood pressure checks and diabetes screenings.
Everyone is invited to receive free food and important healthcare screenings.
