MARY VANETTE HAUSER MCCRARY
January 10, 1938 - October 6, 2019

FRANKLINTON--Vann McCrary, 81, born in Denison, TX and a resident of Franklinton, NC, died peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Vann grew up in Denison and in her late teens moved to Memphis, TN, where she finished high school and met her husband Bill. They started their life together and had their four daughters in Memphis, and then began a series of job-related moves around the South--Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Virginia, Florida, and eventually back to North Carolina. In all their adventures, Vann was the one who pulled it all together, from the packing to setting up the new homeplace with her special touch of love and warmth.

Vann gave her heart and soul to Bill and her girls, but she also contributed outside the home much more than most know. From being active in PTA and other school, church, and community activities, to her many arts and crafts projects and her sewing, she gave of her time and talent in so many ways, all the while caring for and loving a family of six. She even successfully owned and managed a local natural food store in Middletown, VA, giving it up only because it took too much time away from home and family.

Until recently, Vann was active in the soup kitchen at Franklinton United Methodist Church and participated in many other worthy efforts at the church. Her Franklinton friends and church family meant the world to her, especially after Bill died; they were a lifeline of love and support.

Vann's greatest gift was love. She was an angel to many. She will be so sorely missed by her family and friends, but her legacy of love will be carried forward by all who knew her.

Vann was predeceased by her parents Milton and Lelia Baker Hauser of Denison, TX; her siblings: Ellenor Fulton of Atlanta, GA, Janet Luibel of Tampa, FL, Sonny Hauser of Birmingham, AL, and Doris Hussey of Plano, TX; her husband Bill of Franklinton; her beloved oldest daughter Jenny McCrary of Henderson; and her dear grandson, Matt Shuster of Raleigh. She is survived by her brother, Bob Hauser of Pflugerville, TX; daughters Jean Scrivani and Katie Keith of Raleigh and Mary Jackson of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren, Anthony Daniels, Jason Pegram, Brandon Daniels, Kayla Jackson, and Will Jackson; step-grandchildren Addison Scrivani, Alexis Scrivani, and Ruthie Keith; great-grandchildren, Cole Pegram, Savannah Pegram, and Leyton Daniels; great-grandson-to-be, Graham Shuster; and many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her.

A memorial service will be held at Franklinton United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church's Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, tax-deductible donations may be made to the church in Vann's memory, with checks payable to FUMC and noted "In memory of Vann McCrary." The church's address is 109 N. Main Street, Franklinton, NC, 27525.
