Hope Moore has been promoted to IT manager and treasury services manager for Union Bank and Trust, a community bank based in Oxford.
Moore joined the bank four years ago as a Union Bank advisor and loan processor in the Louisburg office. She will remain in Louisburg, and she will report directly to Thomas Combs, the bank’s president and CEO.

Franklin County commissioners accepted a grant that will pay for an access road, connecting U.S. 401 to the Triangle North Franklin business park.
And they agreed to contract with the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments (COG) to manage the project.
“It takes a lot of work,” said Franklin County Economic Development Director Ronnie Goswick, noting that in order to receive all federal and state payments for the project, rigorous reporting, terms and conditions must be met.

Franklin County commissioners agreed to support the expansion of a U.S. 1 corridor study that could plot the future of one of the county’s main thoroughfares.
In 2005, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) decided to study the four-lane highway from I-540 through U.S. 1-A in Youngsville.

LAKE ROYALE — They do keep score and declare a winner at the Lake Royale Sprint Triathlon, but the spirit of community was just as strong as the spirit of competition on a brisk Saturday morning.

The United Way and the Cooperative Extension office are teaming up to give residents a taste of Franklin County.
Both agencies are hosting a Local Food Roast at the Franklin County Farmer’s Market this Friday, selling food plates filled with local fare.
The hope is that residents like it enough to make it a habit and boost the bottom line for local growers.

With the return of a few favorite events and a couple of new ones, the United Way of Franklin County 2010-11 campaign is under way.
This year’s campaign is being led by Co-Chairs Nicki Perry and Sheriff Pat Green. The two have had extensive volunteer histories with UWFC and continue to support the organization’s effort to help in human services areas in Franklin County.

Louisburg Elementary School will be offering free tutoring services to eligible students to help children succeed in reading and mathematics.
In order to be eligible, students must be enrolled in any grade level at the school and also receive free or reduced-price lunch. Parents must sign up their children no later than Thursday, Oct. 21.
The Vance-Granville Community Band will present its first concert in Franklin County when it performs on Monday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Seby B. Jones Performing Arts Center at Louisburg College. Admission is $5, but free for children age 11 and under.
The B.F. Person-Albion Class of 1962 celebrated its third class reunion on Saturday Oct. 3, at the Franklinton Park in Franklinton. It was a time of good food and fellowship. Along with class members, attendees included three class teachers, the Rev. Walter Yarbrough, James Foster and Dorthy H. Jones, along with Dr. Priscilla Brodie as guest teacher.

RALEIGH - Archie Perry Parrish, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 6) at Union Chapel Baptist Church, Zebulon, with the Rev. Mark Palmer and the Rev. George Whitman officiating.

Well THAT explains it!
Ever notice that the simple explanation is usually correct?
That certainly seems to be the case regarding the scandal at the North Carolina Employment Security Commission which somehow managed to make $28 million in overpayments to unemployed people.
GOOD MORNING: It looks like we’ve got some pretty nice weather in store for us locally for the remainder of this week, what with sunny days, moderate daytime temperatures and a zero chance of rain forecast thru Saturday.
Daytime highs Wednesday thru Saturday are expected to top out in the mid 70’s with overnight lows around 50 with the exception of tonight (Wednesday) when temperatures could dip into the 40’s.
People always talk about taxes or fees and what they get for their money.
Well, according to news reports out of South Fulton, Tenn., at least one man knows what he won’t get — fire protection.
Firefighters in that town watched a county home burn down because its owner didn’t pay a $75 fire protection fee.

My name is Kerria Fleming and I attend Louisburg High School. I am an honor roll student and I am involved in many clubs.
This week at my school we are celebrating spirit week (Sept. 27 - Oct. 1). I am the vice president of Louisburg High School Student Government Association (SGA). I have been participating in all of the events.
The Boys & Girls Club of Franklin County received a donation from CenturyLink for $3,700 to pay for repairs to its air conditioning unit.
The air conditioning unit for the Boys & Girls Club building at 53 West River Road in Louisburg was in need of repairs. CenturyLink, who holds a board seat of the Boys & Girls Clubs, stepped forward to pay for the repairs.
