1001.Judge denies reduction of bond in sexual assault case; Charges remain pending for Alert husband and wife
LOUISBURG -- A judge refused to lower the bond of an Alert man accused of sexually assaulting a minor.Perry Wheless Moseley will remain in custody in lieu of a $3.7 million bond on charges that he took indecent liberties with a minor nearly a decade ago.His wife, Ernestine Walker Moseley, whom authorities allege was complicit and an accomplice, is next slated to appear in court in March.Franklin County sheriff's deputies arrested Perry Moseley on Dec. 23, alleging the 80-year-old was responsible for sexually assaulting and taking indecent liberties with a child.

WAKE FOREST -- Franklin County authorities helped Wake Forest police arrest three people connected to a fatal stabbing in November.Wake Forest authorities allege Leondra M. Perry-Yarborough, 17, and Carlos R. Cannady, 22, both of Franklinton, and Alexander M. Morris, 18, of Youngsville, were responsible for the Nov. 22 stabbing death of Wake Forest resident Edgar Hardison.

Another bright spot in the day was for passersby who saw the $1.64 per gallon price on unleaded gasoline at the Hess store. 1006.Traffic stop leads to drugs
A man riding a scooter without a registration plate compounded his problems when deputies found drugs. According to a report by Dep. Samuel Zuniga, he was patrolling Old Halifax Road when he spotted a scooter doing more than 50 mph with no registration plate. When he stopped the vehicle at Perry Road, Zuniga said he noticed the driver, Antione Rogers, 29, was fidgeting and nervous.

1011.Couple charged with abusing 8-month-old
Franklin County authorities arrested a Youngsville couple charged with abusing an eight-month-old. According to warrants, investigators allege Dennis and Annie Newton of Windsong Lane are responsible for serious injuries, including the broken legs, arms and fingers to the child in their foster care. According to Dep. Ruby Galvin, the child was taken to the hospital where it was being examined for a knee injury.

1016.Larcenies, break-ins probed by deputies
Sheriff’s deputies are probing some larcenies and break-ins. George Moore with Progress Energy reported the morning of Jan. 14 that someone stole copper wire from telephone poles on Collins Mill Road. According to the report by Dep. Alison Claybon, Moore found debris and wiring in the roadway, an apparent attempt by someone to steal the items.

RALEIGH -- Police arrested a third suspect they allege was responsible for killing a Louisburg man.Noel Adophus Matthews, who has a Youngsville-area address, was arrested Saturday and charged with murder in connection to the death of Darrell Travonne Willie Greene.The 26-year-old was arrested without incident.

BUNN -- Commissioners declined to make a zoning change that would have allowed another downtown business.Percell Davis petitioned commissioners to amend its zoning ordinance to allow truck repair in the downtown commercial zoning district.Davis proposed to operate such a service at 108 Warren Avenue. The property is zoned commercial, however, a house sits on the property now.

BUNN -- A Louisburg man was killed last month following a single-vehicle wreck outside of Bunn.According to a report by Trooper I.H. Alwadei, John Franklin Lloyd was traveling along Old Halifax Road -- south of Perry Road -- at about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 31 when he ran off the road to the right struck a tree on the driver-side door.The 2007 Honda was the only vehicle involved in the accident and there were no passengers, authorities said.

Members of a church community were recovering this week from an accident that crushed a church van. According to a report by Trooper T.W. Allen, Sandra Alston, 58, of N.C. 58, was driving a Perry’s Missionary Baptist Church van west on N.C. 561 when another vehicle drove into her path. According to Allen’s report, Mavis Burnette, 83, of Dorsey Road, was travelling east on N.C. 561 when she ran off the road to the right at about 5:45 p.m. on July 2.

1038.ON ITS SIDE
Both lanes of U.S. 401 were shut down for about a mile near Bennett Perry Road following a tractor-trailer wreck on Thursday morning. According to Trooper C.M. Garner, James Hales, 35, was traveling north on the highway when he ran off the road just before 8 a.m. The trailer turned onto its side, dumping its load of sand. Hales sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck. He was cited for failure to maintain his lane.

Sheriff’s deputies are looking for suspects in a couple of break-ins. First, Frieda Paredes reported on the afternoon of July 6 that someone broke into her home in the 1000 block of Tollie Weldon Road. According to the report by Dep. Kevin Perry, suspects apparently kicked open the back door to gain entry.

LOUISBURG -- Franklin County commissioners agreed to look at helping a community group turn an historic school into a community center.But, they stayed short of providing funding or officially committing to help.The Copeland-Perry School was built in the 1880s, serving African American students as a Rosenwald school -- one of a number of African American schools across the South built through the philanthropic efforts of Booker T. Washington of the Tuskegee Institute and Julius Rosenwald, president of Sears Roebuck.

1053.Youngsville police round up handful of DWI suspects
Youngsville police arrested a handful of DWI suspects, including a commissioner’s son. Logan C. Lancaster, 21, of Remington Court, was arrested during the early morning hours of Aug. 18 and charged with driving while impaired. According to the report by Officer A. Edwards, police had set up a license checkpoint at W. Main and N. Cross streets and Lancaster approached in a red pickup truck, driving through the stop.

A Louisburg man was sentenced to between 13 and 16 years after being convicted of killing Bunn teenager Marc Philippeaux. Authorities charged Antione Perry with first-degree murder after he and two other suspects were arrested in the early morning hours of Jan. 15, 2005. Perry was convicted of firing the fatal shot that killed Philippeaux while he and about 150 other people celebrated a Bunn basketball victory at a house party.

A Franklin County grand jury indicted four people charged with robbing a Franklin County man and stuffing him in a truck. In January, sheriff’s deputies arrested and charged Chad M.
