2506.Hospital agreement signed; terms are mostly unchanged
LOUISBURG -- Leaders in Franklin County and Louisburg have reached a final agreement with Novant Health about the transition of the former hospital.In October, all three sides began negotiating an agreement that would, essentially, pay Franklin County $1.63 million to support the required increase in ambulance service in the county, deed to Franklin County all related property of the hospital including its Certificate of Need or license to operate, and obligates Novant to maintain the hospital building and grounds for one year and to maintain insurance on the property.

2516.YOUNG SHUTTERBUGS
The Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central NC-Franklin Unit members were able to participate in a national “Image Makers Photography Program” through a grant of $2,000 from the Franklin Arts Council. Twenty-two members participated in an exciting and educational photography class that taught them to become familiar with the way a camera works, the process of taking pictures, how to hold a camera steady, taking pictures in direct sunlight, as well as seeing, expressing, documenting and storytelling through the eyes of a camera. At the end of the program, members will be able to participate in Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Photography Contest where they will compete for national recognition.

2522.It's been a busy fall season for local 4-H members
Franklin County 4-H'ers have been busy gearing up for different events and competitions. The most recent events and competitions include State 4-H Shooting Sports, showing in the Four County 4-H Livestock Show, and practice and competing at the NC State Fair.Youth from the Franklin County 4-H Sharp Shooters Club competed on the district level in September and qualified to compete on the State level in October. The group brought home many awards.

Franklin Regional Medical Center officials say their plans to relocate near the Wake County line won’t leave central and northeastern residents lacking in medical care. The end of the Civil War ushered in decades of hard times for farmers in the South and those in North Carolina shared the suffering.A variety of economic and political factors made it difficult for farmers to make a good living. The Patrons of Husbandry, a national organization founded in 1867, tried to improve the lives of farm families.A chapter of the Grange, as the organization came to be known, began operating in Guilford County in 1873, and in February 1875, the North Carolina General Assembly incorporated the state-level organization.

Franklin County voters turned out in high but not record numbers on Tuesday, approving a $53-million school bond that will primarily pay for a new Franklinton High School. And two commissioner candidates — Dr. Raymond Stone and Shane Mitchell — put themselves ahead of the pack in a race that could warrant a run-off election. Franklin voters also cast their ballots in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama, with 5,735 votes to Hillary Clinton’s 5,055. Voters approved the school bond with 8,301 votes to 4,546.

The Rev. Dr. Earlie Lenward Brodie lived more than nine decades in Franklin County, and he devoted most of his life to the educational, spiritual, and civic betterment of African Americans in Franklin and surrounding counties. The son of Willis and Elizabeth Smith Brodie, he was born on August 8, 1905. The large family -- the Brodies had nine children in 1920 -- lived on a farm in Goldmine Township.

Winterguard, under the direction of Bailey Pelt, Meredith Bryan and Kerry Shimfessel, has been seeing success in their 2024 season. This year's show is titled "Dance of the Faerie Folk" and is designed to symbolize the myth of joining a faerie circle and dancing until one dies. LOUISBURG -- Police arrested a woman they allege stole a truck and went on a spending spree with the victim's credit card.According to investigators, Melissa A. Morrow and a friend went to a man's home in the 200 block of N. Main Street during the early morning hours of March 26, under the guise that Morrow had to use the bathroom. While Morrow's friend, who knew the resident at N. Main Street spoke in the doorway, police allege Morrow went inside and took the victim's keys, a cell phone and credit card.

The Franklin County Board of Education had one of its shortest meetings in recent memory this week -- the public portion was barely 10 minutes long!During the public portion, the school board set the tuition rate for county schools at $1,782.08 per student per year.
