LOUISBURG -- The intangibles that pushed the upstart University of South Carolina-Sumter Fire Ants to the Region X regular season baseball crown were all on display last Saturday at Frazier Field. The Fire Ants, who have lost only four league games this spring, clinched the title with a doubleheader sweep against Louisburg College. USC-S used strong pitching, timely offense and reliable defense to take its first-ever region championship.

There it is, in black and white, although the actual sign is red lettering on a white background.These simple, rather crude signs were erected at both the North Main Street and North Bickett Boulevard driveways to the former Novant Health Franklin Medical Center last Friday.Not unexpectedly, the hospital's owner pounced on its first opportunity to take its name off the medical facility, switching out the signs even before it was fully closed.

2935.FEEDING THE FEEDERS!
Working quietly and mostly unseen since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Franklin County a small group of workers in the county schools' child nutrition department has been preparing breakfasts and lunches for children who, during more normal times, would get those two meals at school. Rather than risk those children going hungry during this troubled time, the school system has been providing and delivering meals five days a week to various sites around the county.

The Franklin County Board of Education closed out its current fiscal year last Thursday by filling a long-vacant assistant superintendent’s position, renaming a department and handing out a little over $9,000 in bonuses to top administrators.The board named Rhonda C. LOUISBURG -- The Louisburg Warriors will carry a two-game winning streak into league action following a 28-14 comeback victory over Lakewood Friday at Warrior Field. LHS, now 4-2 overall, will begin Tar-Roanoke Athletic Conference play next week at home against unbeaten Northampton West, the defending Class 1-A state runner-up. To prepare for that game, the Warriors entertained the always-tough Leopards (3-3) from Sampson County. Lakewood, utilizing its option offense, led 14-12 at halftime before Louisburg reeled off 16 unanswered points to wrap up the matchup.
