FRANKLINTON -- Franklinton's new-look offense got things going, but it was the Red Rams' defense that came through in the clutch down the stretch to preserve a 31-21 home victory over rival Bunn in non-conference prep football action Friday night. FHS, behind wide receiver-turned-quarterback Lyeshon Parker, scored on its first two plays from scrimmage and help the Red Rams (1-0) build a comfortable lead before the Wildcats rallied to within three points in the second half. A Cary man is awaiting his day in court after he was arrested on charges of swindling a Youngsville man. According to arrest warrants and investigators, Jimmy Ray, 63, of Youngsville alleges he hired Ashley Cameron Rhodes in August of 2009 to do repairs on his home. According to reports, Ray paid Rhodes, 44, for work, but a large portion of the home remains undone.

The store where two teens purchased beer hours before one of them died in an alcohol-related crash was cited two years ago for selling alcohol to a minor.N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agents charged Nagib Salem Ala with two counts of selling beer to persons less than 21 years of age -- misdemeanors.Agents allege that Perry Frazier, 18, and Dustin Garriss, 18, bought beer from the Ingleside Grocery on N.C. 39 North the evening of Oct. 9.Just before 2 a.m. on Oct. 10, the State Highway Patrol alleges Frazier was driving a pickup truck on Hodges Road at a high rate of speed when he rounded a curve and lost control of the vehicle, hitting two trees and getting ejected from the vehicle.

Nicholson at the Louisburg Operations Center with many family members, loved ones, friends, and former students in attendance.Nicholson was escorted in by his surrogate daughter, Emma Brown Robertson, and former student, Evangeline Boone Rickman. Nicholson was able to walk in with only the aid of a cane. At the age of 100, he still has excellent vision, good hearing, and a phenomenal memory.

The 2010 Bunn Coach-Pitch Select Team put together a remarkable 18-1 record this spring. In April, Bunn competed in the Triangle Select League Preseason Showcase in Smith and went 4-0. 2194.Two elementary schools earn state honors
Two Franklin County schools -- Royal Elementary and Youngsville Elementary -- have been named as North Carolina Schools of Distinction. The designation came as the state Department of Public Instruction released its annual ABC accountability report. The ABC report is a state measurement of school progress based on state testing results. In the end, Royal tallied an overall composite score of 80.3 percent proficient, while Youngsville finished at 80.0 percent proficient. To meet proficiency, students must make a Level III or above on the state reading and math end-of-grade tests. In all, 502 schools throughout the state earned the School of Distinction title.
