Two men police allege are responsible for beating and robbing an elderly man await their day in court. With the help of Franklin County sheriff’s deputies, Louisburg Police arrested Darrell Maurice Hicks, 23, on charges that he brutally beat and robbed Keith Claxton, 84, of Wake Forest.

HENDERSON-Bennett Hester Perry, Jr., age 81, passed away on April 15, 2011 in Henderson, N.C. Born in Richmond, Virginia, April 16, 1929 he was the son of the late Bennett Hester Perry, Sr. and Katharine Drane Perry. Bennett was raised and lived in Henderson, NC.  After graduating from Episcopal High School in 1947, he earned an undergraduate and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Bennett proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lieutenant and a Platoon Leader from 1951-1953. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the Korean War.

Louisburg police arrested a Youngsville man on charges of indecent exposure. According to a report by Sgt. Joe Sherrill, he was patrolling S. Main Street when he found Willie M. Perry, 17, urinating in public. When Sherrill tried to apprehend Perry, according to the report, the teenager ran.

The defense attorney for one of the suspects alleged to have killed a Bunn teenager is set to argue that his client isnt fit enough to face the death penalty. Law enforcement officers arrested Antione Perry, 20, Charles Sidney Mayo, 21, and Elliott Hazelwood, 27, in January of 2005, alleging the Louisburg trio were responsible for the shooting death of 17-year-old Marc Philippeaux.

BUNN — A town officer was fired last month amid allegations that he took indecent liberties with a minor. Police Chief Kent Winstead confirmed that James Perry was terminated following an internal investigation into the allegation brought forward by the guardian of a teenager on Nov. 15.

A Superior Court judge issued multi-million dollar bonds for two suspects charged with killing a Bunn teenager despite the objections of the victims mother. After listening to testimony from prosecutors, defense attorneys and the victims family on Thursday, Judge Carl Fox issued Charles Mayo a $2.5 million bond and Antione Perry a $5 million bond.

The State Highway Patrol charged a Louisburg man with the death of a Laurel Mill Elementary student in an all-terrain vehicle accident. According to a report by Trooper C.I. Hundley, 21-year-old Trevor Tyler was operating a four-wheeler just after 8 p.m.  on May 19 when he ran a stop sign at Reynolds Road.

Two Franklin County stalwarts in education moved to higher levels of leadership this week. On Monday, the Franklin County Board of Education named Shawnee Perry-Manley as principal of Royal Elementary School and hired Daniel Wright as a new assistant principal at Bunn High. For the past five years, Perry-Manley served as an assistant under Rob Bendel, whom she officially replaces on Monday when he leaves to take a recruiting position with Wake County.

Attorneys for a Louisburg man sentenced for murder on Friday have filed an appeal. Antione Perry was convicted and sentenced Friday to spend between 13 and 16 years in jail for the murder of Marc Philippeaux, who was a 17-year-old Bunn High student-athlete when he was killed during the early morning hours of Jan. 15, 2005.

672.Suspect in shooting death accepts plea with dismissed charge, sentenced 38-55 months
One more suspect in a March 2010 shooting death was sentenced this past week. Antavious Green pled guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon as part of a plea arrangement on Tuesday. Prosecutors agreed to drop charges of second-degree murder. Green is one of several suspects that investigators said played a role breaking into Anthony Perry’s Kittrell home and killing him.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested four more men they allege are responsible for the death of a Kittrell-area man. And they are looking for as many as three more people who had a role in the March 16 death of Anthony Perry. On Monday, deputies arrested Damien Lamont Cruduip, 20, of Kittrell, Antavious Green, 18, and Jemel Davone Bullock, 24, both of Henderson, charging all three with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Attorneys seated a jury earlier this week, and prosecutors were expected to be in the crux of their case against a Louisburg man charged with killing a Bunn teenager in 2005. On Monday afternoon, prosecutors and defense attorney Boyd Sturges began selecting a jury that will determine the guilt or innocence of Antione Perry. The now 22-year-old is on trial for the first-degree murder of Marc Philippeaux.

Days of late winter rain have left much of Franklin County downright soggy -- and sent thousands of gallons of water cascading over and around the dam at the normally placid Perry's Mill Pond in the Pearce's area of the county. Although area creeks and rivers have been pushed beyond their normal boundaries and area farm fields have begun to look more like rice paddies, Franklin County and vicinity have been spared much of the weather-related devastation that has plagued much of the remainder of the nation.
