FC Library announces December programs
The Franklin County Library is kicking off the Christmas season with a "Jingle Jam."
All ages are welcome to this holiday celebration that will include decorating cookie houses, card-making stations and holiday music.
The Jingle Jams will happen at 4 p.m. at Louisburg Library on Monday, Dec. 1, Franklinton Library on Wednesday, Dec. 3, Youngsville Library on Tuesday, Dec. 9 and Bunn Library on Thursday, Dec. 11.
Jingle Jams will be followed by a special program for teens at 5 p.m. called "Nailed it! Cookie House, Teen Edition."
For adults there will be a December program called "Bake the Season Bright!"
The event will celebrate the season with the flavors of home with holiday baking books, favorite family recipes and trading some treasured homemade treats.
This program will be at Louisburg Library on Monday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m., Youngsville Library on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m., and Franklinton Library on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m.

Birdwatching club will combine meetings
Franklin County Birdwatching club will combine the November and December meetings into one meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cooperative Extension office at 103 South Bickett Blvd.
Everyone is welcome to share about our year of birdwatching in Franklin County. This meeting will include a potluck. Contact Lee at 919-495-2516 to sign up to bring snacks.

Interest meeting
The Oxford-Henderson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host an interest meeting for the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Delta Academy is an educational enrichment program for young girls ages 11-14 that promotes healthy personal development, leadership skills and community service.
Participants who attend the free sessions gain knowledge that will enable them to become more positive and confident youth in their school and communities.
The interest meeting will be held at the Oxford Housing Authority Training Center at 602 Raleigh Street in Oxford. The Oxford-Henderson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., covers the service areas of Granville, Franklin, Vance and Warren counties in NC and Clarksville, VA.

Civitan blood
drive slated
Cypress Creek Civitan is partnering with The Blood Connection to sponsor a blood drive on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Blood Connection bus will be in the Pineridge Realty parking lot, 2196 Sledge Road, across from Lake Royale.
Each blood donation can save up to three lives! Holiday season is normally a critical time for blood donation.

A Thanksgiving Community Dinner is being planned for Thursday, Nov. 27, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Louisburg College dining hall.

Coats for Christmas drive underway
The annual Coats for Christmas drive is currently underway. You may drop off your new or good used clean coats, gloves and scarves at the local Farm Bureau office, 496 Redwood Lane, Louisburg.
All sizes are needed especially for kids. Donated items will be taken to Safe Space, the Senior Center and other places in Franklin County as needed. The coat drive has been going on for over 30 years.

Wreaths Across America, Franklinton
The Franklinton Woman's Club and The American Legion Post 52 are inviting the public to Franklinton Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 12:30 p.m. for a wreath-laying ceremony. At the conclusion of the ceremony, wreaths will be placed on Veterans' graves at Fairview and Evergreen town cemeteries. This is a free event where children and adults of all ages are welcome.

Adapting forestry plans to the market
The Franklin County Cooperative Extension is planning a forestry presentation by an NCSU Forestry specialist on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
"Forest Management Strategies to Adjust Your Forestry Plan to Market Changes" will begin at 10 a.m., at Franklin County Cooperative Extension Center Annex; 103 South Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Registration is required. Register online at go.ncsu.edu/adaptingforestryplansforchangingmarkets

Credit course for landscapers
The Landscape Professionals December credit class will be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at Franklin County Agriculture Center Annex; 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Speakers will be Dr. Steve Frank, Professor of Entomology and Extension Specialist, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at NC State and Dr. Navdeep Godara, assistant professor, Turfgrass Weed Science.
NCDA Pesticide Credits: 2 Credits for HLNDX, NC Landscape Contractor Credits: 2.

County's holiday schedule
All Franklin County government offices will be closed for Thanksgiving Day and most will be closed the Friday after.
All libraries will also be closed Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29.
The solid waste transfer station and the convenience centers will be open both Friday and Saturday of that week. The county airport will be open Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will be open on Friday.

Get the breakdown on compost
A composting class will be conducted Monday, Dec. 8, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annex, 103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Learn about what composting is, why it's important, how to start and maintain a compost pile and how to use the finished product.
It will be free to attend with an option to make a take home bin for $15. Register online at go.ncsu.edu/decembercompostclass.

Small Grain Growers Assessment vote
The North Carolina Small Grain Growers 2025 Assessment Referendum will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 4, from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., at County Extension Centers or Extension meetings held that same day.
Small grain farmers will vote on continuation of the self-assessment program for six years. Any North Carolina farmer who is a grower of small grain (wheat, oats, rye, barley, grain sorghum and canola/rapeseed) over the age of 18 on Dec. 4, is eligible to vote.
North Carolina growers of small grain (wheat, rye, oats, barley, rape seed, canola and grain sorghum) continue to assess themselves an assessment of half of 1 percent on the gross dollar amount sales on all small grain produced on their farms for a six-year period with collection of these funds to be collected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and paid to the North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association for grower education, research, marketing, administration and enhancing small grain profitable for North Carolina Farmers.

Taxes, records for Carolina producers
On Thursday, Dec. 11, "The Ag Money Gameplan: Taxes & Records for Carolina Producers" workshop will be conducted at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Center in Louisburg. Two informative sessions will be taught by NCSU Ag Economics Tax Specialist Nicholas Brown and Laurel Clabaugh of CashKeep Bookkeeping. Resource recordkeeping materials will also be distributed to the participants (one per family).
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the annex meeting room. Program starts at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served before the program concludes around 1:30 p.m. Cost to participate is $20 per participant.
