While the first order for our new legislative leaders is balancing our state budget, the second is helping put people to work. The sooner we move the needle on unemployment, the sooner our economy recovers and good things begin to happen in every section and every sector of our state. Without adding more public sector jobs or incurring more budget deficits, there are things our state can do that will lower unemployment numbers.

For every dollar of public expenditure or targeted tax break on North Carolina’s books, there’s a lobbyist or interest group paid to protect or expand that dollar.

Louisburg School of Dance participated in the N.C. State Fair Folk Festival Clogging Competition on Oct. 15. Their clogging routine, “Buttermilk Biscuits,” won first place. Cloggers from all over the state participated in the week-long folk festival competition.

Deadline nears to sign-up for N.C. Environmental Quality Incentives Program
The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced December 17, 2010 as the deadline to qualify for funding through 2011 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) in North Carolina. Landowners who wish to participate in this ranking and funding cycle should have their applications submitted to their local NRCS Field Office by close of business Friday the 17th.

HENDERSON -- With the score of the match ending all even at 33-33, a tie-breaker format was utilized to determine the winner of Wednesday’s non-conference prep wrestling match between Franklinton and host Kerr-Vance Academy.

Two players familiar to Louisburg College fans have received Player of the Week honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association for the weekend ending Nov. 24.
LC sophomore forward Jeremy Atkinson, who has been dominant for the 8-1 Hurricanes, was saluted on the NJCAA Division II level after averaging 33.5 points and 15.5 rebounds during a three-game stretch.
