Some of those players stepped up for Franklinton during Tuesday’s road game at Southern Nash -- which also featured Williams’ regular-season debut as he continues to nurse a leg injury suffered during FHS’ football playoff game in mid-December.

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- The Cincinnati Reds today have announced that the entire 2010 Carolina Mudcats coaching and medical staff have returned for the 2011 season. David Bell, Ryan Jackson and Jimmy Mattocks will return for their third season in a Mudcats uniform and Tom Brown will be back for his second season.

Accused murderer given bond
A man accused of murdering an acquaintance and fleeing to Virginia was given a bond on Tuesday morning, an avenue that could mean his pre-trial release.
Franklinton Police and Virginia State Police arrested Rashawn Arrington on Sept. 21 — a day after investigators and witnesses allege he shot and killed Jesse Montague Jr.

Fatal wreck ruled accident
The state Highway Patrol has concluded that a fatal wreck last week was an accident.
No charges will be filed against the driver, Christine Davis of Franklinton.
Davis hit and killed Dominic Moises Alvarenga while the 19-month old was in the roadway at about 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 22.

The town’s governing board will meet next month to decide if it’s something they can do.

CSP funding deadline extended To Jan. 7, 2011
It’s the gift of more time for farmers interested in the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).  The USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has extended the deadline for producers interested in CSP to Jan. 7.
JB Martin Jr., NRCS State Conservationist for North Carolina, encourages interested farmers to apply early to be considered during the funding cycle.

Oh, my! What a difference a new perspective can make!
The difference was readily apparent from merely the headline in the venerable News & Observer last week that read: “Federal earmark ban still fluid.”
In other words, the world looks entirely different when you are an elected official than when you were a candidate stumping for votes and trying to convince the electorate that you’re different from the other guy.

We’d all like to predict the future. I am often asked to predict the economic future, as are many of my colleagues. Our half-joking response is two-fold: Our crystal ball is cloudy, and we’re much better at predicting the economic past!
However, economists do take the job of trying to assess where the economy might be going seriously. We have developed several ways of meeting this task.
