According to a preliminary report by the State Highway Patrol, Joyce G. Roberts, 81, was driving a pickup truck east on N.C. 56 near Timberlake Road when an oncoming pickup truck crossed the center line on Friday afternoon.

Utilities took center stage for much of the Louisburg Town Council meeting Monday night as the council awarded a contract for construction of several water lines to H. G. Reynolds Co., Inc., of Henderson.
That firm bid $401,000 for water lines that will serve West College, Glenn, Noble, and Middle streets, Person and Ford Circles and Fox Park Road.
Originally the project was estimated at about $448,300 and the town had decided to borrow the money to complete it.
