The recovery of skeletal remains earlier this week is helping a family come to grips with what had been a more than 4-year-old mystery. Family reported Judith Ann Gupton missing from her Green Hill Manor apartment on Nov. 5, 2003. Ground searches by men and dogs and air searches by helicopter were conducted near her home with no success.

Starquest Environmental Club students at Louisburg Elementary School learned firsthand the process and research needed to write a grant.  After narrowing down the environmental need at their school, Mrs. Leonard’s Environmental Club decided to focus on writing a grant for needed plants at the front of the school.

510.Town of Franklinton taps new water plant superintendent
FRANKLINTON — Water plant supervisor Richard Hinkle passed the baton of leadership this week as the town’s water plant is under new management. Hinkle will remain on staff in a service capacity. Frank Efird comes to the town’s water department as its new superintendent, bringing 20 years of experience, the past five as Pittsboro’s superintendent. He began work in Franklinton on Thursday.

FRANKLINTON — Water plant supervisor Frank Efird gave the town his last update on Tuesday. Efird, who took over the town’s water plant in October 2009, has tendered his resignation. His last day will be Sept. 30. “I’ve enjoyed my time here,” Efird said after the meeting, noting that he had the opportunity to work with dedicated employees, including former supervisor Richard Hinkle.

LOUISBURG -- A Franklinton man will soon learn whether the death penalty is a possible punishment for killing his father.Franklinton police arrested John Lawrence Morgan on Nov. 26, hours after finding Richard Morgan Jr. dead from apparent stab wounds.Prosecutors have requested a Rule 24 hearing for Feb. 26 where they will inform the courts whether or not they plan to pursue a capital case -- meaning they could seek the death penalty if Morgan is found guilty.

The state Highway Patrol continues to investigate a fatal hit and run that claimed the life of a Henderson man. Authorities were called out at about 5 a.m. Tuesday to find the body of Richard McClain Jones lying in the roadway of U.S. 401 near the Warren County line. According to what investigators have been able to determine, the 66-year-old man appeared to have turned the van he was driving off to the side of the two-lane highway, getting stuck in a brush line.

LOUISBURG -- Andreas Wilson has enjoyed quite a career as a member of the Louisburg High School boys basketball season -- and the junior standout guard still has one more year to go. Wilson excelled in 2016-17 while helping the Warriors reach the Class 1-A State Playoffs. Wilson began to draw plenty of acclaim from beyond Franklin County after averaging 26.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per outing.
