1005.Louisburg leaning toward 401 efforts; Blago and bloggers are at it again
GOOD MORNING: Is it possible for Franklin County to come together and act for the common good of everyone? Well, there were indications that this possibility is slowly taking hold at a meeting of the U.S. 401 Citizens Action Committee Thursday night, and you’d better pray that the trend continues to grow, because the future welfare of the entire county is at stake. And to discover why the 4-laning of U.S. 401 is such an important part of this plan, one has only to look at the economic impact the 4-laning of US 1 has made in the western part of the county, together with the huge investment the county has made in the Triangle North Franklin industrial (hub) site, the success of which hinges on upgrading U.S. 401.

1022.Just say no to big Government
Dear Editor: Time to open our eyes!! I am against government running the banks, the automobile companies, and especially our health care. I don’t want government to decide who is “eligible” for surgeries, or who should die. Horror stories come from people in Canada relating to government decisions about their health care (long waits, refusal of care based on what government decides is worth paying for). I don’t want my tax money paying for abortions. I remember when there was some integrity in government (I thought).

1089.Etheridge’s choice of meeting site have some asking “What’s Bob afraid of?”
GOOD MORNING: News that Democratic U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge might be willing to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr next year is nothing to get excited about here in Franklin County — particularly to those who want U.S. 401 done now. For some unexplained reason, Etheridge, who has announced his intent to back a move by Gov. Beverly Perdue to use all $300 million in TIGER funding earmarked for North Carolina to replace an aging bridge across the Yadkin River at Statesville, as has Sen. Burr, which strongly suggests some sort of a back-room deal to me as well as others I’ve spoken with.

1090.Berger and other cabbage-heads
GOOD MORNING: If Republicans want to deal Gov. Beverly Perdue a body blow and give U.S. Senator Richard Burr a huge re-election boost at the same time, the first and most important thing they need to do is convince Sen. Burr how important the U.S. 401 project is to voters in the Franklin, Vance, Warren area and all the rest of eastern North Carolina, actually, and to climb on the 401 bandwagon. I’m telling you, folks, when details on all of the back-room deals leak out regarding various funding initiatives designed to give our ailing economy a boost and put unemployed workers back to work — and make no mistake about it, they will, voters will be screaming for the scalps of some very prominent political office holders all the way from Raleigh to Washington, D.C.
