FRANKLINTON — Increased patrols in a neighborhood prone to shootings resulted in a drug arrest last week.
Officers arrested Juwon Antonio Mitchell, 27, on a number of drug charges after beefing up patrols in a community recently plagued by gunfire.

Jobless numbers decrease
More residents in Franklin County are finding work according to the latest employment figures.
Franklin County joined 98 other counties that witnessed their unemployment rates decrease for the month of April.
Franklin County’s rate went from 10.7 percent in March to 10 percent in April.

Deputies arrest hit and run driver
Franklinton police arrested a Virginia man accused of plowing into a car-load of people before leaving the scene.
According to police, Seneca F. Watson, 32, of Norfolk, was traveling west on Pocomoke Road when he failed to stop the Chevy Suburban he was driving.

Chris Benton received his pharmacy doctorate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., on May 22.
He graduated from Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Va. Following high school, he attended Lynchburg College for two years before transferring to VCU.

It seems that after the recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, no suspect will ever win the quiet game.

Well, if you have to ask, you don’t have children.
Anyway, it seems that the Supreme Court ruled this week that suspects must explicitly tell investigators that they wish to remain silent — a protection every criminal is afforded under law and is advised upon through a Miranda warning.

FRANKLINTON -- The Franklinton High School Red Ram Youth Soccer Camp is scheduled for June 15-19 at the FHS Football Field.
Boys and girls ages 4-14 are welcome to participate. Cost is $65 per camper, which includes T-shirt and awards.
