Pricing, policy and practices helping preserve lives of pets
Changes in pricing, policy and practice ramped up adoptions at the county’s animal shelter this summer.
And thanks to some new-age technical savvy and old-fashioned customer service, more animals continue to find homes after the sheriff’s office took over the department.
“We want people to feel welcome and come by,” said Joni Grissom, who along with fellow Animal Control Officer Kimberly Gallaway, has worked to improve customer service and the office’s footprint in social media.

Shifting political winds causing major changes
And we’re off and running into a new year. It’s going to be an interesting one if trends so far continue.
We’ve got a new administration in Raleigh that  will be running hard to get away from the controversial and ethics-challenged bunch of the last several years. That will be a good thing.
But before we break out the bubbly, our new guv’nor needs to focus on a few basics.

Bunn Hangs On
FRANKLINTON -- A much-improved Franklinton squad was destined to give Bunn all it could handle during Tuesday’s Northern Carolina Conference boys basketball showdown at the FHS Gymnasium.

BHS’ SHOOTING STAR
FRANKLINTON -- If anything has been learned about Bunn High School girls basketball over the past four years, it’s this -- when in doubt, get the ball into Whitney Bunn’s hands.
That theme was played out once again Tuesday as the Ladycats struggled at times offensively during a road Northern Carolina Conference showdown against the Franklinton Lady Rams.

A Victory In Hickory
LOUISBURG -- So much for the theory that a three-week layoff would squelch the momentum of the Louisburg College men’s basketball squad.
